Flashback Episode w/ Howe Gelb - November 30, 2007

On Friday November 30, 2007 Prince Palu and Oncle Ian entered the CJLO studios within Concordia University’s Loyola Campus, unaware of what was about to happen.

As we go live to air, we explain that an interview we were hoping to have with Howe Gelb ( Ginat Sand / Band of Blacky Ranchette / Arizona Amp & Alternator etc..) had fallen through…. then the phone rings.

What ensues starts off a bit awkward and then rolls into one of the best and most memorable interviews we’ve had the opportunity to do. To the uninitiated, Howe Gelb has manifested his own trajectory as a musician and artist., exemplifying DIY execution and writing the book on creating your own niche, ultimately leading to a catalog that spans decades, with sounds ranging from Punk, Country, Jazz , Flamenco as well as Gospel and on and on. Since forming Giant Sandworms in Tucson in the 1970’s, Howe has been honing his craft and turning coal into diamonds.

This episode is truly one for the books. We were honoured to have had the opportunity to speak with one of our heroes and American Underground Nation Treasure…Howe Gelb.
