GGRMS December 16, 2022 with Rob Nicholls (Provincial Parcs)
December 16th in the year of 2022 shall go down in the annals of history as the dawn of new day, for it was on this day that Little Village Records officially entered the universe with the release of its first vinyl record. To be precise, it was the debut (and simultaneous swan song) of the great Cosmic Americana band Leather Rose.
Giddy with anticipation, but saddened by his comrade’s absence due to a stomach bug, our humble host Prince Palu premiered both the A and B side of this monumental 7” single! “Hurt by the Words b/w So In Need”. In a thirty minute set built around these two beautiful songs, Prince Palu bore witness to the start of an empire and was filled with pride as he listened to his dear friend’s dream come flowing out of the speakers in the CJLO DJ booth.
In the second hour, Prince Palu presents the interview that Oncle Ian did with Toronto musician and visual artist, Rob Nicholls. During the hour-long segment they dive into Nicholls’ history growing up in a small town on Vancouver Island, his move to the main land and then eventually relocating to Toronto. Throughout all these stages, music played a major role in Nicholl’s personal development and how that has influenced his work as a painter. Spliced in between the talk segments are pieces from Nicholls’ electronic Jazz / electro Orchestral music project, Provincial Parcs.
As always, this is definitely worth your time, and dear listener don’t you want to play a small role in the history of Little Village Records? So press play and hear the debut of your new favourite independent record label!
Thanks again to Rob for taking the time to speak with Ian, it is greatly appreciated. Now, as a precocious little girl once said, “Tune in, turn on, FREAK OUT!”
