Pleased To Meet Me: Zeke Sayer of The Humms
Introduce yourself… (Where are you from, what band do you play in etc..)
I'm Zeke Sayer, from Georgia (U.S.) and I play with The Humms.
Why do you play music?
It was passed down from my grandmother, father, and mother.
What was a major influence on you as an Artist/Band?
Little Richard, Elvis, The Beatles, The Carter Family and Mom/Dad.
What would be a dream collaboration?
To work with Sylvia Massy and Joe Meek.
Describe a favourite album.
"I Hear A New World" by Joe Meek & The Blue Men. Some people are still to this day, trying to figure out how Joe got some of those sounds, and in stereo (1958-60).
What's your favourite local haunt?
Nick's in Clemson, SC or Gumlog Fish Lodge in Gumlog, GA.
What's your strangest experience while performing live?
Either being stabbed with a syringe pissed on or having an audience member arrested, mid-set.
What are some of your favorite aspects of being a musician in Georgia?
Georgia's rich musical history. Drinking from the same water hole as Ray Charles, Little Richard, James Brown, etc.
Has the current COVID-19 pandemic and quarantine influenced your creative process?
Not really that I can tell, but surely it has.
If you weren’t playing music in Georgia where would you be?
Happily working on alternators and starters, in Georgia (and playing music with customers on break).
Any sage advice for young musicians?
Only do it if you love doing it, alone.
